Print this page. Worksheet #9
A. Looking on the
topographical map on the computer, can you locate the approximate location of the
"Donny's" camp? Now put your estimate on the map you have been tracing
Jacob's pathway on.
B. What emotions have
passed though Jacob starting when he first heard the plane to the end of Chapter 21.
Put down one descriptive word for each change of mood for Jacob. Here is one
example, "frightened."
C. Create an anti-poaching poster. Put
whatever image or symbol you want on it. Make it simple but VERY
understandable to whoever reads it.
- Your anti-poaching poster should be displayed on a wall where other people
will see it.
D. What precautions was Jacob's father taking,
so that the poachers would not be able to locate him?
E. Do you think Jacob should have eaten
Donovan's food? Explain your reasoning behind your answer.
F. In Jacob's mom's letter, what did she mean by
using the word "evolution?"
G. The use of the word "evolution" in
his mother's letter is VERY appropriate coming from her. The author has worked hard
to make his characters believable (like they really lived).
- Look back through the book, and find out what occupation
Jacob's mother had? __________________________
H. On page 206, Jacob's father says, "I
realise that you're holding all the cards ... " What does he mean by using this
expression?
I. Now that you have thought of an animal or
plant to research. Look in your library, on the Internet, and any CDs that might
have information on your subject. Record the name of EVERY book, CD or web site you
take information from. You will need this information for your bibliography.
Here is the format you need to record your information in.
Each different kind of "media" has a different format. Look
closeley!

Pullman, Philip (1979). The Golden Compass, Random House, Inc. Toronto |
The first (Last name)
word is indented 5 spaces. The book's name is underlined. |
|
Pullman, Philip (1993). The Subtle Knife, Random House, Inc. Toronto. pp. 125-126 |
This is the same author,
different book, and this time I am referring to what is written on pages 125 and 126. |

Ratnesar, Romesh (1999). What Good Did It Do?: The air assault battered Iraq, but it
hasn't wiped out the threat posed by Saddam's secret lethal arsenal. TIME, (Volume
152 No. 26, pp. 42-47) Richmond Hill, Quebecor Printing. |
Again, only the name of the
book (this time the magazine name) is underlined. Note that any one looking for this
article would be able to see that this was the TIME magazine issue that was printed for
Canadian use. There are TIME magazines printed for the States, for England and many other
countries that have different articles in them. This magazine has a volume, and number
issue. The pages that this article is on are listed here. |

Plonsky, M. (1998). Psychology with style: A hypertext writing guide (Version 3).
Retrieved from the Web 9/1/98. http://www.uwsp.edu/acad/psych/apa4b.htm |
This is the site I got this
information from. You can tell who wrote it, when, and where you can find it. One of the most important things with a web site
record, is to record the date you visited it.
Since there is no book --- there is
nothing underlined! |
| Software |
|
|
Encarta (1998) Microsoft CD |
Since there is no author for
something found on a CD, or a page number where you can find the information, all you need
is the name of the CD and its publisher and date. |
